The task was to design a surform rasp set consisting of at least two pieces. The goal was to create an innovative and ergonomic set that would stand out in any workspace.
WHY ?
RESEARCH: Many surform rasps on the market today lack the option for multiple grips. While one ergonomically designed grip may seem perfect, having more than three options is rare. No matter how ideal a single grip may be, extended use will still cause discomfort to the hand.
Having multiple grip options allows you to switch grips whenever discomfort arises or a blister starts to form. This became the core concept of OU design.
HOW ?
Since the goal was to offer multiple grip options, inspiration was drawn from gymnast rings. With circular shapes like rings, the possibilities are endless.
The ergonomics were tested across multiple prototypes, from which the final dimensions were determined. However, ergonomics alone aren’t enough for a surform rasp; usability is just as important. To address this, a slim end was designed to reach surfaces in tighter spaces. The result is an innovative and visually harmonious set.
